PS Challenges Xaverians
Mrs. Emi Rabukawaqa, Permanent Secretary for Education has challenged the students, teachers and parents to go out and assertively share with others the teachings they have enjoyed at Xavier.
While speaking at the College Day Function on the 26 th October, she said, “I pay tribute to the Columban Fathers who were pioneers of the school and I humbly applaud the Montfort Brothers who manage Xavier from 1987.
Xavier plays a leading role “not only in the work of the Church in the community but also in it being a bastion of education quality and excellence”.
The success stories of Xavier could fill volumes. The initiative of the school to offer club activities, Cadet training and other enriching programmes that complement the academic curriculum is very highly commended by the Ministry of Education. At national level, the external examination results of the College far surpass that of nearly every school in the country. Not only this year, but also for several years.
The goal of education in this college is not just for economic reasons. My special appeal to Xavier students, teachers and parents is to go out and assertively share with others the teachings you have enjoyed here. In this regard, I wish to congratulate the Principal, Bro. George for his tireless leadership, which has been the inspiration for on-going progress at the school. The professionalism, hard work and unity of the members of the Staff is also recognised and commended.
The Catholic Church leadership for their vision and commitment in running the school is appreciated. The contribution of the College to the development of the Western Division, and indeed to the whole of Fiji is very real and substantial. To the parents and friends of the school, our gratitude for your untiring assistance and support to the students and to the school.
As we celebrate another successful year at Xavier what students need is a clear sense of direction guided by social and moral obligations and values.
Xavier students should endeavor to develop a healthy positive self-concept. A positive self-image is a key to success. You need to believe in yourself and have the will to succeed. Hard work and determination will lead you to excel academically. A quiet self-confidence, not arrogance, is the key to winning and excelling in life. Please resolve to grow intellectually, morally, technically and professionally every day through your entire student life. Diligence and dedication are also catalysts for improved performance.
Besides the pursuit of academic excellence, Xavier College is an appropriate arena for developing the values appropriate to multi-racial living. The school population is a multi-ethnic one thus the school has a great responsibility of inculcating values such as tolerance, understanding, co-operation, forgiveness and love of fellowmen. These virtues should come easily in this institution for it is built on the basic Christian tenet of love.
The miracle standards of Xavier College can be replicated in every school. Especially the disadvantaged ones across the Western Division and even beyond.
Montfort Brothers have come and conquered every obstacle, persevered beyond expectation and produced such outstanding results. They have shown us that it can be done! Let’s go and do likewise .
I congratulate all prize-getters and who will be leaving school this year. You will have to become leaders of Fiji. Twenty-First Century Fiji belongs to you - Take good care of it”.
